NDC in partnership with its members, is also conducting a comprehensive financial literacy outreach program for members of the United States Marine Corps based in Camp Pendleton. The course is taught by experts, including SEC Director, Office of Investor Education and Advocacy Lori J. Schock. This will help participating young Marines, mostly single ages 18 to 30; Private 1st class and Lance Corporal ranks, understand and apply principles and practices necessary to gain and maintain financial stability. The counseling services facilitate multi-day workshops by its counselors and training team at the Basilone Gate for the USMC Lima Company in Camp Pendelton, San Clemente, California every of the month for the year 2021.
More than 600 young marines have participated in this program and are being educated on various banking products and tools. The Program encompasses the following:
- Coach young Marines to create a household budget based on financial goals
- Constantly improve and maintain good credit score
- Gain soft skills and behavioral modifications that lead to sound financial management
- Strategies to increase savings and reduce expenses & debt while living within the militarybase(s)
- Help those unbanked or underbanked utilize banking products & tools
- Assist with setting up Marines to be able to avail of loans in the future
- Learn the basics of other financial tools - i.e., investment and insurance plans
- After the 2-day workshops, we conduct one-on-one coaching for one year, if desired, as a follow-up to achieving the Marines’ financial goals
Course Structure:
- Entire Financial Literacy course is 2 days: 3 hours each day covering 6 modules
- Anywhere between 50-200+ attendees per class
- Pre-work online course is provided and required for completion prior to attendance of actual class
