March 21, 2023Dear Friends,
As a community advocate for 20 years and serving hundreds and thousands of homeowners, small businesses, students, and seniors, I cannot be more proud and happier about the impact that our work could make in our communities. We started the National Diversity Coalition (NDC) with the mission to advocate for the LMI and minority communities, alongside my role as former CEO of the National Asian American Coalition (NAAC). While I am thrilled to continue leading the advocacy efforts as the CEO of the National Diversity Coalition, it is time to let my other child go for good. After serving, nurturing, and building NAAC from a zero budget and zero funding to where it is now, I am pleased to say that I can concentrate on working with NDC and serving our communities at a greater level.

NDC will continue to Inform. Inspire. Empower. through its public affairs TV program Owning a Piece of America, hosted by Faith Bautista, produced by NDC and broadcasted monthly on Spectrum News 1 to engage the communities in public policy matters while embracing the diversity of Southern California and to highlight the richness of culture among the colorful immigrant population in Greater Los Angeles
The advocacy work NDC does has proven invaluable to a broad range of people. From the merger of PNC and BBVA, US Bank and Union Bank, TriCounties and Valley Republic Bank, to Umpqua Bank and Columbia State Bank,, the NDC team in the past year has worked to ensure the everyday person benefits from corporate progress. Our continuing professional relationship with the federal regulators including the FDIC, Federal Reserve, and the OCC, and participation in Project REACh in Los Angeles and across the nation has enabled special purpose credit, Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU), and other initiatives to break down barriers which the unbanked and underbanked face.

From NDC’s 19th annual Economic Development Conference, our meetings in Washington D.C., fighting bills in Sacramento, to advocating for the protection of consumers, our team has worked to bridge the gap between government bodies, small businesses, and grassroots organizations. To implement President Biden’s Affordable Connectivity Program and Broadband for All initiatives, we conducted outreach programs across Las Vegas, San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles, Central Valley, and the San Francisco Bay Area.
I’m thankful for the progress we’ve made in these areas and for the people, we’ve met along the way. Helping supplier diversity efforts, the small business technical assistance program, PG&E and Southern California Edison’s affordable utility services programs for low-income demographics, CARE, FERA, and other government subsidy programs has resulted in meaningful work. NDC is so appreciative of our partnerships with the Jesse Miranda Center and the African American Empowerment Coalition because our outreach work would not be the same without them.

NDC’s strong foundation will be carried into the new year thanks to my wonderful team. Prachi Kohli, our Legal Affairs Specialist, was honored as one of the 40 under 40 at the LA TV Week by B+C Multichannel News. She also recently won the Outstanding Leadership award at the Law 2.0 Conference in Las Vegas which attracts global legal and finance community leaders under one roof. Her leadership title is well deserved, and we’re excited to cheer her on as she forges new visions in the 21st century!
Thank you to everyone that has supported and believed in me throughout the past 19 years of my career as a nonprofit leader. I look forward to working with the new Executive Board of NDC, Pastor Andre Chapple, Pastor Jack Miranda, Regina Grant Peterson and Jeff Lim as well as my new staff COO Dennis Santiago, an expert in banking regulations, leading NDC to the next level. We also want to sincerely thank the services of Jin Sung as the Board Chair of NDC for the past 7 years.
May we continue to practice gratitude going into the new year! God bless all.
